To answer this question, it’s best that I share with you a defining moment that brought me to where I am today, coaching people, like you, on improving their personal and professional results.
My defining moment came one cold December day 2002 and I completed dismantling the division of employer where I worked for almost seven years. After 20 years in the Corporate world I was still unsure about the entrepreneurial path, I was headed down the freeway wondering if starting a business was the right decision. I was thinking back about what a successful corporate career I had as an executive navigating significant organizational change through mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and closures. Frequent promotions and exceeding goals and expectations were frequent for me. But starting a business was an entirely different challenge. I spent many hours wondering where my next paycheck would come from.
At that moment I saw something pop up from the freeway and I instinctively crossed my hands over my face and waited for what I thought would be a painful moment. All of a sudden I heard a big whooshing sound and dinging going around in my front seat. I placed my hands on the steering wheel to see a shattered windshield, a softball-sized hole in the windshield, and a 4 ft 5 lb semi-truck’s tire iron in the front seat of my car. I navigated to the side of the road and eventually landed in a parking lot off the main freeway.
I called the police and while waiting for them to arrive, I got out of the car to inspect the damage. There was a 6 inch gash in the steel hood of my car that, thankfully, changed the trajectory of the tire iron. When each one of the three police officers came on scene that day, they said, lady, you’re on this earth for a reason. Just moments before, I had been asking if starting a business was the right decision, and I got my answer three times.
At that moment, I made a commitment: to make sure I was utilize my best talents and learn all I could about marketing, networking, and developing who I was as a person. But I didn’t want others to struggle like I had struggled with this new change. Not only did I write Me, Myself, and Why? The Secrets to Navigating Change (which became a best seller) but I developed a one-on-one Premier Coaching Program that helps others create the framework for their change.
But that wasn’t enough. I decided that I would use my talents and become an expert on how to build a sustainable business in alignment with who I was. But I didn’t want to work 80 hours a week doing it. I had already done that and been there and didn’t want that again. I had the marketing and I had networking. But I was missing something. The systematizing and monetizing to have the business work for me, not me for it. I had an “ah ha” moment. Soon I learned about those systems that would take my business to an entirely new level.
I made a commitment at that moment to help self-employed entrepreneurs increase their income, with less effort, on purpose. On purpose really has a double meaning here. What it means is that we all have special talents, wiring, and gifts and if we can use them to do work in alignment with who we are, it’s not work! But our natural wiring can interfere with building a sustainable business. For years, I showed people their natural wiring, and now it is part of an important formula for The Entrepreneurial Edge System that helps entrepreneurs get their preferred clients faster and more efficiently than ever.
We all have those tire iron experiences that wake us up or get us stuck. It took many years, but I did what I do best: help people help themselves, connect seemingly disparate ideas, and create systems. Having a process-improvement background, I wanted to stop the struggle for others and created a Premier Coaching Program to help individuals create a framework for their change.

What happens if you haven’t yet worked with people in my field?
I have worked with thousands of clients in both for profit, nonprofit, and a variety of industries including legal, hospitality, health care, manufacturing at all levels including Executives, Managers, Directors and Entrepreneurs, just to name a few. But here’s where most people make the mistake about coaching:
There is a difference between coaching and guiding. Depending on the program, I may guide you (as in The Entrepreneurial Edge System) or in Premier Coaching, I may be using a developmental coaching model to coach you through a stuck point, achieve goals and get different outcomes.
How are you different than other coaches?
Having worked in the corporate world, I’ve had exposure to the complexities of sophisticated infrastructures. However, I’ve also had to work with the small business owner and the needs are different. What’s great about having worked with/in both small business and large infrastructures, it is helpful to have someone who has had those experiences to help with by understanding what it takes to make the infrastructures work.
Additionally, I am passionate about development coaching in a business system. Most people call what they do is coaching but what they are really doing is consulting – they are telling people what to do. I subscribe to the coaching model where the person being coached has the Power, Accountability, Authority and Responsibility over the results they achieve. With a developmental coaching approach, the person being coached develops their competency to help with their own problem solving.
As a professionally certified coach, I’ve learned how to ask questions to uncover what’s underneath the surface problem so the person being coached can become aware and take action. Doesn’t that make more sense than being prescriptive? When the coaching is over the person being coached has developed the competency to do things for themselves. As a coach, if I always prescribe things for my coaching clients, they will never learn how to do it for themselves. You have to develop your own problem solving and competency for achieving the results so YOU can achieve them over and over – that’s a true measure of success and I’ve done my job as a Coach.

Motivational Drive-Based Instrument
Our coaching practice is based on the notion that motivators are key to how people navigate change, make decisions, create relationships, and conduct business among other things.
While there are many instruments that measure motivators, we use a specific instrument that focuses on motivational drivers. This motivational driver-based instrument identifies motivational driver combinations and shows the Person Being Coached (PBC) three main areas:
- Their natural motivational drivers;
- The impact change is having on their motivational drivers and what change is occurring; and
- The behaviors that are being exhibited.
This instrument allows an individual to create an awareness of their comfort zone and begin to understand how this comfort zone impacts their ability to lead or navigate change. This instrument is then used throughout the other coaching programs to help the PBC further understand their own motivational drivers and the drivers of others.
Possibilities Readiness Questionnaire
This open-ended questionnaire identifies challenges, obstacles, and priority areas of the PBC. It identifies gaps that may exist and where those gaps may be surfacing personally and/or professionally. These areas are explored during the course of the Discovery Session.
Development Areas Survey
The PBC creates a self-assessment of 24 key areas, including leadership, managing, coaching, negotiating, goal setting and active listening. This exercise creates an added depth of awareness for the PBC in concert with the other instruments that are completed and discussed during the Discovery Session.
Coaching Readiness Survey
Often times there are unrealized self-limiting beliefs or processes that interfere with successful transitions. This 20-statement self-rating survey helps the PBC identify areas of strength and areas that need continued development to achieve the goals and objectives they identify in the Possibilities Readiness Questionnaire. The Coaching Readiness Survey also determines if the PBC is ready to proceed with an ongoing coaching program and where there may be areas inhibiting a transition.
